But how do you know if your choice will give you the best look? If you want to be an expert in making such decision for yourself and others, there are plenty of online fashion design courses. But before you begin, it is important to know what is fashion designing?
It all began in 19th century when a man named Charles Frederick (1) started his own fashion house where he counselled his customers on what kind of garments would look good on their body. Following his footsteps, many other fashion designing enthusiasts started hiring artists with knowledge of clothes and garments.
This was the beginning of a new profession, which was popularly known as a fashion designer. It all began in Paris and the news spread all over the world at the beginning of 20th century. Fashion design, during this period, was mostly about haute couture. Paris invented new designs and outfits and then the world would create the same. This made Paris the ‘fashion capital’.

The 3 important lessons to master for becoming a fashion designer are drafting, cutting and sewing. You can understand about them below:
1. Drafting
This step lays the foundation and commences the beginning of garment creation. This process teaches you how to take the measurement of the person who is going to wear the dress and then we can go to the next step of garment creation
2. Cutting
This step involves cutting the fabric using the measurement taken by a fashion designer during the drafting process. It is very important to be careful while cutting the fabric as any wrong judgement while cutting or drafting can cause permanent damage to the outfit.
3. Sewing
This is where we use the fabric from step 2 and measurement from step of garment creation and start creating our outfit. Sewing gives us the desired product for which we drafted measurements and cut the fabric. The only thing to keep in mind during sewing is the type of stitch being used as there are many types of stitches and each one of them have their own purpose.
